Since the start of the COVID19 Emergency, Foundations has risen to the challenge of supporting people and communities across Stockport.
Foundations through our “Your Local Pantry” project has been able to support over 750 people each week with food aid.
A particular challenge has been to provide over 250 people each week who are shielding (aged 70 years and above) with food aid delivered to their home.
In 2019/20 Your Local Pantry distributed 61,000 tonnes of desperately needed food aid to people in communities across Stockport.
We have been able to make this happen with support from the following funders:
Charities Aid Foundation (CAF)
CAF have provided us with a grant of £6335 to lease a refrigerated delivery van for 3 months. Your Local Pantry already has one delivery van, but this extra van will help us manage the unprecedented demand for home deliveries of food aid for older people who are shielding at home.
Big Local in Brinnington
Big Local are funded by the National Lottery Community Fund and have been working with the community in Brinnington since 2014 on a ten year programme of investment.
Big Local awarded us a grant of £2,000 which we are using to fight “period poverty” by including personal and household hygiene goods to people in need in Brinnington. Your Local Pantry receives lots of donations of food aid which we distribute to those in need. But we do not receive non-food donations. So this grant has enabled us to help some of the most vulnerable in the communities we serve who as well as experiencing food poverty, also experience “period poverty”
Through our Your Local Pantry work, Foundations are members of neighbourly. Neighbourly is a giving platform which puts suppliers with surplus in contact with distributors of aid.
A neighbourly micro grant has enabled us to purchase additional food for distribution early on at the start of the COVID19 Emergency.
